The Ground
Nestled in the heart of Bethlehem, a suburb in the sunny Bay of Plenty, is Beaumaris Boulevard Reserve, a community greenspace identified as a local neighbourhood place space by Tauranga City Council.

Growth in the area, which incorporates a new urban development in Tauriko West, has meant Beaumaris Boulevard Reserve has been recognised for its role in providing a welcoming, neighbourhood, destination for local residents – young and old – to enjoy.

Working closely with Tauranga City Council, the Playground Creations team set to work to design a safe, accessible, and exciting outdoor environment for the whole community to enjoy.

The Creation
Front of mind in the revitalisation of Beaumaris Boulevard Reserve was the creation of space where families can gather, relax, and connect. Considerations to deliver on this goal included good visibility for supervision, enabling children to play comfortably in the eyesight of adults.

Preserving and enhancing the reserve’s natural charm was also a priority, which the Playground Creations team achieved by incorporating existing concrete edges into the layout and introducing natural play elements within them. Improved pathways allow for easy access from the footpath to the playground, shaded picnic areas provide families with options for alfresco gatherings, and new seating under established trees offers relaxing viewing points.

In response to strong community feedback, a new wheels track has been incorporated as an additional feature as well as a 20metre long, double flying fox, which is already proving to be a major drawcard for thrill-seeking youngsters and adventurous grownups.   

The Play
Play is at the heart of every great community, and at Beaumaris Boulevard, we’ve created a multi-zoned play space that encourages movement, imagination, and connection.

Zone One: Inclusive Play Zone
Designed with accessibility in mind, this area features a basket swing, toddler swing, and strap swing. A wheelchair-friendly carousel encourages social, inclusive play where everyone can participate together.

Zone Two: Senior Play Module
This adventurous area is perfect for older children, with a wave slide, climbing features, and classic monkey bars for active exploration. We’ve retained the original net spinner to honour the existing play culture while enhancing the overall experience.

Zone Three: Toddler and Natural Play Zone
Safe and inspiring, this zone supports imaginative and developmental play for younger children. With a mini slide, rope bridge, and natural timber elements, it blends tactile experiences with opportunities for social interaction and creative exploration.

Beaumaris Boulevard Reserve is more than just a playground, it’s a hub for connection, creativity, and community spirit. Whether you're scootering, swinging, picnicking or playing, this renewed reserve is a place to grow, explore, and belong.
